Some encounters seem capable of expressing all the love in the world without the need for words. That is what happened at a hospital in Brazil, where a newborn had such a moving moment that images of it went around the world.
Little Ágata Ribeiro Coêlho was born on April 5, 2017, by cesarean section, at Santa Mónica Hospital. Her mother, Brenda Coêlho de Souza, was 24 years old at the time.
When the medical staff brought the baby close to Brenda’s face, something unexpected happened: Ágata stretched out her tiny hands and clung to her mom’s face, as if she wanted to stay close to her.
The video shows the newborn staying wrapped in her mother’s arms and even seeming to kiss her cheek. When they try to separate them, she begins to cry.
“It was an incredible moment when my daughter hugged me for the first time”, Brenda recalled as she spoke about the experience.
The scene became a symbol of the first contact between a mother and her daughter, moving people in different countries.
Although the birth took place in 2017, the video was shared again in later years, reminding people of the tenderness of that first encounter.
