The sun was shining right on the strawberries when the joey decided it wanted its share too.
At the zoo in Adelaide, Australia, a mother potoroo settled down to eat peacefully while her little one watched everything from the best seat in the world: the pouch. Even so, it had its own strawberry and would not miss the chance to enjoy it in the sunlight.
The potoroo is a small, shy marsupial, a distant relative of kangaroos, which in the wild works as the forest’s secret gardener: it digs in search of fungi and tubers and, without knowing it, spreads spores that keep the entire ecosystem alive. But in this scene, in front of the cameras, there was nothing to dig up or hide. Just a mother, her joey, and some strawberries worth sharing.
