Yuleidy Ixcotoyac was 15 years old and, according to her family, severe chest pain caused her to lose consciousness while her father was taking her to seek medical attention.
Abraham, an evangelical pastor, told local television that he stopped, could no longer see her breathing, and could not feel a pulse in her wrists. He concluded that she had died. No doctor confirmed it.
According to reports, the family began holding a wake for her at home in the village of El Jocote, in Sacapulas, Guatemala, on Saturday, October 10.
About 8 hours passed. Her mother, Lesvia Ríos, was crying over the coffin when they opened a small window in the lid. That’s when they noticed movement: the young woman was waking up and suddenly sat upright.
A video shows those present helping her out, amid everyone’s disbelief.
The family called it a miracle. Authorities are investigating what happened, and so far there is no confirmed medical explanation for what caused her to faint or how she woke up.
