HeeHaw was a miniature donkey who had grown up surrounded by love. His owner, Hannah Israel, bottle-fed him from a young age and took him to events where children could pet him. According to her, he had never attacked anyone.
But on August 30, 2026, a police officer shot and killed him on the property where he lived, in Georgia, United States.

The officers had entered the field while searching for a missing 12-year-old girl. Body camera footage shows HeeHaw running toward them.
One of the officers activated his stun gun to try to scare him away. Seconds later, another officer drew his gun and fired.
The little donkey walked away injured and eventually collapsed.

The officer claimed that the animal was trying to attack them, but his owner disputes that account. She maintains that HeeHaw was docile and that the officers entered her property without authorization.
Israel filed a federal lawsuit and is seeking accountability for her pet’s death. The officer was temporarily removed from duty while the incident was investigated.
The missing girl was found safe. HeeHaw, on the other hand, never came home.
