Ryan Abdelrahim had a date. Or so he thought.
On February 19, 2025, the 23-year-old Arcadia resident arrived outside a Target in California to meet a 14-year-old boy. According to the group waiting for him, he knew early in the conversation that he was speaking with a minor and still showed interest in sexual activity with him.
But that boy never existed. Behind the account was People v. Preds, a private group that creates profiles on dating apps and poses as minors. When Abdelrahim showed up, they alerted Glendale police.
Realizing what was happening, he ran toward a nearby parking lot. The foot chase was short: he stopped and surrendered.
Police clarified that the group does not act at their request: when its members believe a crime is in progress, they call and officers respond as they would to any other call. Abdelrahim is accused of attempting to meet a minor for sexual purposes and, so far, no conviction is on record.
