A hole visible from the upper stands of Banorte Stadium, formerly known as Azteca Stadium, left thousands of fans without answers after a video recorded by user @guillermokrea went viral on social media. The footage shows a large opening in the upper part of the venue, a public access area from which the outside can be seen directly several meters up.
The recording began circulating widely after an exhibition match between Mexico and Brazil legends, and the reaction was swift. Ironic comments about “seats with direct access to the void” appeared alongside more serious questions about whether the stadium meets the minimum conditions to host 2026 World Cup matches, a competition for which Mexico is listed as a confirmed host.
So far, no sports authority nor those responsible for the venue have issued an official statement explaining the origin of the damage, ruling out structural risks, or reporting what measures are being taken. For many, the institutional silence in the face of images that have been circulating for days is as worrying as the hole itself.
