Two girls were walking through Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza, when something stopped them in their tracks.
A blind man moved forward with his white cane in one hand and, in the other, held a leash. On the other end there was no dog: there was a duck, walking slightly ahead, setting the pace as if it knew exactly where to go. One of the young women couldn’t contain her surprise and said it out loud while recording: “It’s not a dog, it’s not a cane: it’s a duck that accompanies him everywhere”.
The video spread across social media within hours, although it also sparked a debate: some users claim that the bird is actually a goose, and no one has confirmed whether it serves a genuine assistance function. In Argentina, the law officially recognizes only guide dogs as assistance animals for blind people. But that did not stop the real and spontaneous scene from winning the affection of thousands of people who cannot stop wondering how that friendship began.
