Mayra Tonche, 26, was 38 weeks pregnant when she began feeling contractions in the city of Ibaiti, Paraná, Brazil.
She expected to meet her son a few days later. In fact, just two days earlier, she had gone for a medical checkup, where she was told that she still had not dilated enough, so she calmly returned home. But her baby had other plans.
Mayra and her husband, Pablo, 37, put their other two children in the vehicle and prepared to leave, but they did not even manage to do so.
When Mayra tried to sit in the car, she experienced such an intense contraction that she had to get back out. She stood leaning against a small wall in front of her house and, within minutes, gave birth to her baby right there. They named him Rodolfo, while a security camera recorded the entire scene.
Her husband Pablo, 37, was incredulous and ran from side to side until he managed to call emergency services, but he was “a little lost with the phone” because his wife “usually handles the calls”.
However, getting through the birth did not mean the danger was over.
The couple realized that the umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby’s neck, and he was beginning to turn purple. Pablo reacted and managed to untangle it while they continued waiting for assistance.
The video surpassed millions of views, and Rodolfo, after two days of observation, returned home safe and sound.
