An elephant weighing more than 4,000 kg unleashed chaos in Angamaly, Kerala, after breaking free from its chains during a celebration at the Kidangoor Mahavishnu Temple.

The animal overturned cars, destroyed a motorcycle, and damaged homes for nearly two hours. The victim who died was Vishnu, 40. Preliminary reports suggest the attack occurred while the victim was trying to photograph an injury to the animal’s tusk in order to inform its owners.

According to local media, the animal remained beside the body, preventing anyone from helping. Another man, identified as Pradeep, was injured. Authorities and wildlife experts managed to sedate the animal minutes later with tranquilizer darts, bringing the chaos to an end.
