But the story had another layer. The Sun Asia Ocean World & Polar World aquarium confirmed that the full scene was a staged rehearsal filmed for a fire safety campaign. The ‘smoker’ was never a visitor: he was an employee acting, as was the worker who approaches earlier to ask him to put out the cigarette.
An aquarium representative surnamed Zhang explained it to local media: several takes were made until the perfect scene was achieved. The beluga is real. The surprise, however, was completely staged. 😅
