A delivery driver in Ukraine nearly died after falling asleep while driving. The man lost control of his vehicle and ended up entering the opposite lane, just as a truck was approaching from the opposite direction.
The impact was brutal. The van was completely destroyed after crashing head-on into the larger vehicle in an accident captured by a security camera located in the area.
The footage shows the van driving along the road before veering into the opposite lane. The crash occurs within a matter of seconds, and the difference in size between the two vehicles makes the impact especially shocking.
But, contrary to what one might expect from seeing the condition the van was left in, the driver survived the accident. The case drew attention precisely because of the contrast between the violence of the crash and the fact that the person behind the wheel managed to escape alive.
The incident also once again highlighted one of the most dangerous risks of driving: fatigue. In this case, just a few seconds of sleep were enough for the vehicle to end up directly in the path of a truck.
The accident occurred in Mylushi, Ukraine, in August 2018, and footage of the moment began circulating widely after the video was shared by media outlets and on social media.
Looking at the vehicle after the crash, it is hard not to think the same thing: it seemed impossible that anyone could have made it out alive.
