The protagonist is a kindergarten teacher in Mexico, known online as @el.maeto.arcoiris. He wasn’t being called out for abuse, negligence, or any act that put his students at risk. He was being singled out for something no one chooses: his sexual orientation.
“Take those children out of there, they’re being improperly taught”, one user wrote, as if teaching with affection were dangerous when done by someone who doesn’t fit the mold that some people expect.
Thousands of people came out to respond to that comment, demanding that people stop conflating a teacher’s identity with their ability to educate. Because that’s the real problem: there isn’t a single piece of evidence of malpractice, only prejudice disguised as concern. 🏳️🌈
