While thousands of people were seeking help, looking for missing persons, or sharing information about the damage, the young woman made a request on a live program that many considered completely out of place.
On camera, she asked for iPhones and Macbooks to be sent to her, a comment that quickly began to go viral and sparked an avalanche of criticism over the apparent lack of sensitivity in the face of the tragedy.
Numerous users described the moment as a sign of being out of touch with reality, saying that while thousands of people had lost their homes or needed urgent help, making that kind of request is very badly viewed.
Others pointed out that the request was taken out of context and emphasized that the electronic devices stored personal information and credentials needed to access bank accounts, documents, and other essential services.
