What began as a joke between a couple ended up becoming one of the strangest anecdotes about their baby’s birth.
Kate Mulford was pregnant, and her due date was still about three weeks away when her husband, Taylor, decided to draw a huge blue face on her belly. The idea was simply to make the family laugh. “My kids were dying of laughter. I was too”, Kate recalled.
No one expected the drawing to end up accompanying her to the hospital. That very night, Kate’s water broke and she unexpectedly went into labor. The couple had to get ready to leave, but then they noticed a rather hard-to-ignore detail: the huge face was still drawn on Kate’s belly.
“When my water broke that night and we were getting our things ready to leave, we realized the drawing was coming with us”, she said.
The situation was so absurd that the family ended up taking it in stride. Kate arrived at the hospital with the drawing still on her skin, and the nurses immediately noticed it. “I remember perfectly how the nurses laughed when they saw my belly and asked me what the story behind it was”, she recounted.
The joke didn’t disappear immediately after the birth, either. According to Kate, it took about a week for the marker to disappear completely, and a bluish tint could still be seen on her skin for several days.
Some time later, Kate shared the story on TikTok, where she summed up the coincidence quite simply: “Your husband draws THIS on your belly and you unexpectedly go into labor THAT SAME NIGHT”. The video ended up racking up millions of views and turned that face, drawn just for fun, into a memory the family probably won’t forget.
Because, although no one could have known when the joke began, that would turn out to be the last night Kate carried her baby inside her belly.
