A video recorded during a HYROX competition in Sydney, Australia, sparked a strong reaction on social media after showing a woman collapsing while competing alongside her boyfriend. While she remained on the ground receiving medical attention, the man continued with the event and later crossed the finish line alone.
Aaron Boundy, a witness who was at the scene, described it indignantly. According to his account, the woman fell to the ground, lost consciousness, and began to shake, while her partner continued doing exercises against a wall. Shortly afterward, paramedics arrived and cordoned off an area around her to treat her. “I think I just witnessed one of the worst things of my life”, Boundy said.
The footage spread quickly, and many users criticized the man for continuing with the competition while his partner was being treated. However, a woman who claimed to be the participant later explained that there was more context to the situation. She said that, when she regained consciousness, one of the first things she asked was whether her boyfriend had finished and what time they had achieved. She also stated that he returned immediately afterward and that the video had been taken out of context.
HYROX confirmed that the participant received medical attention during the event and was transported by wheelchair to the medical area. According to the organization, she was later able to leave the venue on foot. The competition was held in pairs, and the rules state that both members must complete the event to obtain an official time and appear in the rankings.
