A South Korean influencer became the center of an intense controversy after millions of people shared a video that supposedly showed how he had been harassed after dressing up as a pregnant woman during a celebration in India.

The footage sparked outrage on social media and was circulated as proof of the risks women face in public spaces; however, days later, the content creator himself decided to clarify what had actually happened.

As Sumin explained, the viral video circulating online had been misleadingly edited using recordings from completely different trips. The segment in which he appears dressed as a pregnant woman had been filmed in Bangladesh, while the footage of a Holi celebration corresponded to a different trip taken in India.

The influencer said that someone had mixed both recordings to build a narrative that never happened and stated that the edit was used to spread false information and generate hostility toward a specific country.

The clarification sparked a new debate on social media.

While some users pointed out that the case showed how easy it is to manipulate viral content, others recalled that street harassment problems remain a real concern in different parts of the world, regardless of this particular case.

The story ended up becoming an example of how an out-of-context edit can completely transform the meaning of a video and generate millions of reactions before the corresponding clarifications appear.
