Juan has no savings, no bonus, and no salary to see him through to the end of the month.

In Medellín, he gets up every day at 4 in the morning, long before everyone else in the Manrique neighborhood, because the dogs and cats he feeds himself are already waiting for him outside his shack. It all began the day he saw a dog about to give birth, rummaging through the trash so she could eat. Since then, Juan has turned every bottle, piece of cardboard, and sheet of paper he recycles into something different: food, medicine, a blanket to keep warm.

Dozens of animals sleep in his home on mattresses he obtains himself, covered with blankets so the rain cannot reach them. “I work directly for them and I do it with all the love in the world, even if I have nothing”, he says with a smile that asks for nothing in return.
Now the roof of his shelter is about to blow away, and Juan is asking for help to keep standing the only safe place many of these animals have ever known.
