An apartment in downtown Santiago nearly became a tomb. A man went to his ex-partner’s home, doused her and her niece with gasoline, and set the place on fire while a minor was also inside.
The two women managed to get out alive thanks to the help of neighbors who reacted in time, while firefighters worked to control the flames that had already consumed part of the property. The attacker, however, did not stay to face what he had done: he climbed down the building’s balconies and disappeared.
Carabineros are investigating the case as an alleged attempted femicide and continue efforts to locate him. Meanwhile, the question remains: how much longer will someone who tried to burn a woman alive in front of a girl remain free?
