A man in Jakarta, Indonesia, went viral after showing an ingenious way to get rid of a large number of flying insects that were invading an outdoor space at night.

In the video, which quickly began circulating on social media, he is seen using a more powerful light source to attract the swarm outside, taking advantage of so-called “positive phototaxis”, a natural behavior that causes many insects to follow light.

The technique drew attention for being simple, cheap, and not using chemicals, and several users described it as “brilliant”, while also sharing similar tricks to combat nighttime pests in their homes.
