Gerald Betancor had no job and no certainty about his future.
He had left his job two years earlier, in the Philippines, and his days blurred together amid doubts. The only thing that got him out of bed was Ace, his dog, who needed to go for walks. On those walks, he began running into a neighbor who carried three bowls of food for the same stray dogs as always. Seeing her repeat that gesture, day after day, gave him an idea that restored his sense of purpose.
That is how Paws by Gerald was born: he turned his tricycle into a kind of mobile café, with dry food, wet food, and water for the animals he encounters along the way. One of his regular dogs already knows the sequence by heart — he sits and waits patiently because he knows that after the dry food comes the wet food. Other animals are still afraid of him and need time to come closer.
Gerald funded everything with his own money: an electric bicycle to reach farther and a camera to document every encounter. His goal now is to feed 100 animals per day and expand the initiative beyond his neighborhood. The most recent video of his routine has already surpassed 6.8 million views.
