A man sparked a wave of criticism after being recorded while washing himself with soap inside a children’s pool in Palmerston North, New Zealand, just a few meters from several children playing in the water.

The video shared by Luminis DaGawd shows the man rubbing his body inside the shallow pool. The scene provoked outrage among parents and social media users, who questioned the hygiene and contamination risks for the rest of the swimmers.

Some internet users claimed to have suffered infections after sharing aquatic spaces. Others, however, defended the man, arguing that chlorine eliminates a large part of the bacteria. While the debate continues, many agree on one thing: a public pool should not be mistaken for a private bathroom.
