A showcase day in Popayán ended in mourning this Sunday, May 3. During a private event at Boulevard Rose, the Monster Truck “La Dragona” lost control, ran over spectators, and crashed into a pole.
According to reports from the Mayor’s Office and the Police, the accident left three people dead, including a 10-year-old girl, and 38 injured. The driver, Sonia Segura, who has extensive experience with these 1,500-horsepower vehicles, was injured and remains under observation.
Preliminary accounts suggest that a technical failure caused the vehicle’s sudden acceleration. Authorities, led by Governor Octavio Guzmán, are investigating responsibility for the event.
