Soren is 11 years old and has one very clear passion: going door to door and ringing doorbells while shouting “trick or treat”. The problem is that his birthday falls right in the middle of summer, far from Halloween.

His mother, 47-year-old Leah Farrow, posted a simple question in her neighborhood Facebook group in the United States: would anyone be willing to open their door to her son for one day? She expected a few families to say yes. 83 responded.

The neighbors did not just hand out candy. They asked Leah what Soren’s favorite snacks, toys, and treats were so they could personalize each stop. Dressed as a banana and carrying his bucket, the boy went through the streets jumping and clapping with excitement, while other neighborhood children eagerly waited to take part.

For Leah, seeing that contagious joy among the young neighbors was what affected her most: the certainty that her son is accepted and loved just as he is. “There is a lot of love and wonder in the world if you know where to look”, she says now, after her video went viral on TikTok.

@spitting.wisdom Not my usual content but I wanted to share this amazing act of kindness by my neighbors who came together to make my son’s birthday so special. This is why community matters. #autism #momtok #fyp #autistic #parents ♬ original sound – A – 🕶️🍸
