Lisa Schein lost her 8-year-old daughter Maddy in an ATV accident in April 2022. Amid a devastating farewell, she decided to donate her organs, and that decision allowed 4 people to receive a new chance.
One of them was Mireya Moody, a girl diagnosed with a rare heart condition that could lead to heart failure. She received Maddy’s heart when she was 7 years old. Some time later, both families were able to meet in an emotional moment.
On August 24, 2024, Lisa heard her daughter’s heartbeat again, this time inside Mireya’s chest. It was not about going back to the past or recovering what was lost. It was hearing, for a few seconds, that a part of Maddy was still helping another girl live.
