(VIDEO) “My little girl is here”: the father who has spent hours beside a collapsed building in Cali without knowing whether he will hear his 11-year-old daughter’s voice again

Alexander Giraldo has not moved from there since the building collapsed. His 11-year-old daughter Iliana was trapped in the ruins of her own home, in the Capri neighborhood, in southern Cali, after the magnitude 7.4 earthquake that shook Colombia on August 10, 2026.

While rescuers take turns resting and returning to remove debris, he remains fixed in the same spot, his eyes locked on the mountain of concrete, as if he could move it with his gaze alone.

He does not shout, he does not give up, he does not leave; he only waits for a sign: a knock, a voice, anything that tells him his little girl is still there, alive.

Mayor Alejandro Eder confirmed that in that same building, known as Torres del Limonar, there are at least 25 people trapped.

Alexander knows it and still stays, because to him, his daughter is still there.
