Anthony Baines was only waiting for his next passenger.
It was around midnight on August 7, 2026, in The Heights neighborhood of Houston, Texas, when two officers from the Police Department came running up to his car. They were chasing a man who, according to the emergency call, had threatened to shoot a woman and her children. Without much ceremony, one of the officers got into the vehicle and asked Baines to drive. A retired sergeant in the United States Army, he did not hesitate.
For several minutes, he drove through the neighborhood streets following the officers’ directions, while his dashboard camera recorded everything. The suspect ended up escaping, and the police never managed to locate him. But the video went viral, and the Houston Police Department itself confirmed that the incident was real. The passenger Baines had left waiting during the pursuit did not get angry: he left him five stars.
