Lili retired and decided that such news deserved noise, balloons, and an entire street full of witnesses.
She climbed into the trunk of a car decorated with pink balloons and white ribbons, put on a pair of sunglasses just right for the occasion, and held up a framed sign that read “I retired”. The car moved slowly through the streets of Ushuaia while family and friends accompanied her on foot, as if it were a graduation procession celebrating the end of a course. Someone saw her pass from a balcony, took out their phone, and recorded everything.
Lili didn’t know that that afternoon, in addition to retiring, she would become proof that some endings deserve to be celebrated properly: out on the street, with the people you love and without a shred of embarrassment.
