In 2005, Shakira was already one of the biggest stars in Latin music, but she was experiencing a period of tremendous international expansion. That year, she released Oral Fixation, Vol. 1 and Oral Fixation, Vol. 2, as her name began to resonate more and more strongly beyond Latin America.
In the middle of an interview from that time, a reporter asked her to teach her some moves from the so-called “belly dance”, one of the influences the singer had incorporated into her distinctive way of dancing.

Shakira did not need much to get started. Laughing, she stood up and showed the journalist the moves with a naturalness that feels especially endearing today. Her hips moved, she explained the steps, and the scene seemed more like a conversation between friends than an interview with an international star.
Many chapters of her public life had yet to unfold. Her relationship with Gerard Piqué did not exist yet, nor did the songs inspired by her breakups or the enormous exposure she would have years later.

It was simply Shakira in 2005: a young Colombian star who was conquering the world and could still surprise people with a smile and a few hip movements.
Nearly two decades later, the video serves as a small time capsule of a spontaneous, fun Shakira who is very different from the one we know today.
