Kiara had been with her new family for barely four days when the earthquake that shook Colombia changed everything.

The little dog was trapped on the fifth floor of a partially collapsed building in Pereira, in an area where the structure threatened to keep falling. For more than 24 hours, emergency teams worked to reach her.
Firefighters had to use ropes and specialized equipment to access the site, and they finally managed to get Kiara out alive.

The case had begun to mobilize hundreds of people on social media, who shared her story and asked rescue teams not to abandon her.
But the story took another turn: during the operation, rescuers discovered that another little dog was trapped among the remains of the building.

After hours of anguish, both were able to be rescued.
Kiara had arrived at her new home just four days earlier. And when it seemed that this new life could end before it began, rescuers managed to give her a second chance.
