Chatchai “Sam” Parn-uthai, 32, lives in Kanchanaburi, Thailand, and has been raising his two children, Ozone and Imsome, alone since the children’s mother moved to Europe after the separation.
When the school organized its Mother’s Day ceremony, he did not hesitate: he borrowed a pink dress from his own mother, pinned his hair up with a flower, and walked to the hall at Wat Trai Rattanaram Charity School so his children would have someone to hug that day.
A friend, Kornpat Ae Sukhom, recorded the scene without imagining that nearly 6 million people would end up seeing it.
There was no drama or speeches: just a father transformed for an afternoon into the missing figure, so that Ozone and Imsome would not feel different from the rest of their classmates.
Sometimes love needs no explanations, only the willingness to wear something uncomfortable for the person you love most.
