Daniel is 4 years old.
When his preschool asked them to bring something they were grateful for, he did not think of a toy or a photo. He asked his mother, Stephanie DeRoss, 30, if he could bring his little sister Sophia, who is only 2. No one had given him the idea. It was entirely his own.
So one day in November, Sophia sat next to her brother in front of the whole class while he answered questions from his classmates and hugged her as if she were the most precious thing in the world. Stephanie recorded everything on her phone and could not hold back her tears as she did.
She says Daniel has always been his sister’s protector, the one who defends her whenever he can. That day, in front of his whole class, he showed it to the entire world.
