Bruno Olitte celebrated his birthday, and his friends brought him a cake with two fondant ears on the sides.
It seemed like just another joke among friends, until his mother, host Malala Olitte, uploaded a video to TikTok to say that she did not find it funny at all. “This is a video, but it is not meant to be funny”, she said as soon as she began speaking, with the cake still in the background.
They themselves joke about the subject on the podcast they share, “Madre Mía”, and there Bruno laughs at his own ears without a problem. But Malala drew a clear line: the fact that he can laugh at himself does not give anyone else permission to make fun of him. It was that distinction, so simple and so accurate, that turned a birthday cake into a message about respect that was shared across hundreds of screens.
