A conversation that seemed completely normal ended in a tense moment captured by a security camera in Caracas, Venezuela.
A 22-year-old woman was chatting with an officer from the Bolivarian National Police outside the Bello Monte station of the Metro when, in the middle of the interaction, the officer pulled out her service weapon.
According to reports, the officer handled the pistol and rested it against the young woman’s hip area. Suddenly, the gun went off.
The camera shows both of them reacting immediately. The injured woman moved her hands toward the area where she was hit, while the police officer examined her weapon in surprise and asked her to remain still.
The victim, preliminarily identified as Nairelis del Mar González Ávalo, received emergency care at the scene and was later taken to Domingo Luciani Hospital.
The officer involved was identified as Siomary Clemencia Fernández Castillo, and the authorities announced an investigation to clarify what happened.
As of the time of the reports, the young woman’s state of health had not been publicly disclosed.
The video sparked numerous reactions on social media and reignited discussion about the safety protocols that those handling firearms must follow.
