Donald Johnson is 81 years old and still working.

@helpdonretire

His name is Don. He is 81 years old and puts over 200,000 miles a year on his car delivering lost airline luggage because it’s the only job that will hire him. He isn’t doing this by choice—his beautiful wife of 51 years, Josephine, is currently fighting a severe battle against pancreatic cancer. The medical bills are crushing them and his car keeps breaking down. At 81, he should be home holding her hand, not lifting bags that weigh half as much as he does on the highway. I started a GoFundMe as their local neighbor to get Don home. Please help us share his story and get him off the road. 💔👇Link to help Don retire is pinned in comment section! #gofundme #mutualaid #humanity #kindness #helpdon

From Texas, he delivers lost luggage to people’s homes as an independent contractor. He works to contribute to the medical expenses of his wife, who is receiving cancer treatment.

After seeing him struggle with heavy suitcases, Erin Howell decided to find a way to help.

Two weeks ago Don was a stranger on my door cam. He showed up with lost luggage. 81 years old. Taking the stairs one bag at a time. I asked why he was doing a job that hard. He said it was the only one that would hire him. He’s doing it for his wife, Josephine. Cancer. Married since 1969. I found out today his car is done. He’s getting rides however he can. He still had one more delivery, so he Ubered there and back. At 81. After already putting a brutal amount of miles on that car for her. I made a GoFundMe so he can stop. In 9 days, generous strangers have organically donated $4,000. I’m so thankful. People have liked, commented, and reshared who will never meet him. That kindness is already changing things. https://gofund.me/9c60d9f1b If you can help, use the link. If you can’t, please follow this page — at 1,000 followers it becomes clickable. I won’t buy followers — I’d rather people follow because they care about Don and Josephine. If you can’t give, that still helps. 🙏 Let’s get him home with her. ❤️ #fyp #foryou #viral #gofundme #humanity

Howell, a resident of The Colony, near Dallas, started a GoFundMe campaign so Johnson can leave that job and help cover his wife’s treatments. The fundraiser turned a neighbor’s concern into concrete help.

The goal is to ease the financial burden while she receives care. Donald works to support his family; Howell is trying to open up another possibility for him.

At 81, his story also found support from a neighbor.
