They grew up in Greece, amid World War II and their parents’ divorce.
At age 20, Yiayia got married and left her country forever. From then on, she and her sister Adelfoúla saw each other only a handful of times, separated by oceans and an entire lifetime of distance. Until they spent the longest time apart: 15 years without being able to hug each other.
That distance was broken recently. Yiayia is 90 years old. Her sister is 88, and for two full weeks, the two elderly women laughed together as if no time had passed, as if they were 5 years old again with the whole world ahead of them. Yiayia’s daughter managed to reunite them despite all the difficulties, and it was completely worth it.
