Emiliane Tamara Nunes Carvalho is 24 years old, is a nurse, and on August 17, 2026, she went to meet her ex-partner to discuss custody of their children before a court hearing. She did not reappear.

Five days later, police arrived at a rented house in Águas Lindas de Goiás, Brazil, after hearing noises coming from inside. They found her tied up with ropes, handcuffs, and chains around her hands, feet, and neck, wearing a mask that made it difficult for her to breathe. Firefighters had to free her from the restraints before taking her to the hospital.

Her ex-partner, Ailton Rodrigues de Souza, was arrested and charged with kidnapping, rape, and unlawful imprisonment. Investigators found food stored in the house, indicating that he planned to keep her captive for several more days. Emiliane had requested judicial protection before disappearing, but a court in Goiás rejected the request due to a lack of imminent risk. She is now out of the hospital, although she continues to experience pain and dizziness.
