Vincent Belorgey was 50 years old and had a name the world knew differently: Kavinsky, the DJ who turned a synthwave song into the sonic heart of Drive, the film that had Ryan Gosling driving through the streets of Los Angeles at night.
He was found dead in his Paris apartment on Tuesday, July 28. Days earlier, he had suffered headaches, and that clue led investigators to consider a stroke as the likely cause. The Prosecutor’s Office confirmed there were no suspicious signs at the scene.
Just two years ago, Kavinsky had taken the stage at the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games to perform Nightcall alongside Phoenix and Angèle, before millions of viewers. President Emmanuel Macron bid him farewell as ‘French pride forever’.
