An 88-year-old woman had spent her whole life dreaming of sitting in first class on a plane. A stranger gave her his seat, and she asked for a selfie because her daughter wouldn’t believe her

Jack Littlejohn was 29 and had a seat in the Upper Class cabin, the equivalent of first class, on a Virgin Atlantic flight from New York to London. Violet was 88, a retired nurse, and was traveling in economy.

They met at the airport, and the friendship was instant. When Jack learned that Violet’s lifelong dream had always been to sit at the front of a plane, he boarded, found her in economy, and offered to switch seats. He settled into the row next to the bathrooms and didn’t ask for anything the entire journey.

Flight attendant Leah Amy shared the story on Facebook on December 10, 2019. She said she tucked Violet into her bed after dinner, and that Violet wanted a selfie because her daughter wouldn’t believe her. She didn’t have a phone or an email address, so the photos would have to be sent by postal mail. Amy, who has looked after footballers, supermodels, and Hollywood stars, called them her two favorite passengers of all time.
