At 25, when many had already been playing professional football for a decade, Vozinha was only just signing his first contract.
It didn’t come easily or quickly. But when he finally received that first paycheck, with the award bonus included, he didn’t think of luxuries or personal indulgences: he thought of his mother.
“With my first contract I bought things for my mother’s house”, he confessed in an intimate interview with his new club, Colo Colo.
“I dedicated my life to football”, said Vozinha. And that sentence sums it all up: the years of sacrifice, the patience of waiting for the right moment, and the certainty that when it came, it would be to share it with the person who deserved it most.
