Adalia Rose was 11 years old, and the whole world watched her for a reason that had nothing to do with her illness.

She was born in Texas, and at three months old she received a diagnosis few families ever hear: Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome, a genetic condition that causes the body to age faster than normal. In 2018, it was estimated that fewer than 500 people in the entire world had it.

Her family started uploading videos to YouTube when she was little. Adalia did the rest: makeup tutorials, dances, jokes, and everyday moments in which she was spontaneous, fun, and confident. By the age of 11, her videos had racked up nearly 170 million views.

No one stayed for a medical story. They stayed for a girl who loved getting dressed up, singing, and making people laugh, and who never hid who she was. Thanks to her, many people learned about progeria and learned to look beyond appearances.

Adalia passed away on January 12, 2022, at the age of 15. Her videos are still there, her joy as vibrant as ever.
