Joan MacDonald was 70, with swollen ankles and a knee that still hadn’t fully healed. She climbed stairs, resting on every step.

Her doctor was already talking about increasing her blood pressure medication, and the list of daily pills also included medication for cholesterol and reflux.

Her daughter Michelle, a personal trainer, enrolled her in a group of women and convinced her to try before it was too late. Joan bought a kitchen scale, renewed her gym membership, and finished her first session gasping for breath.

Ten months later, she was already off her blood pressure and reflux medication. Over time, she stopped taking all her medications.

Today, at 80, she does deadlifts, pull-ups, and plyometric jumps at a level of physical fitness that many twenty-year-olds would envy. She lost nearly 38 kilos through five simple habits: moving every day, eating without snacking, staying hydrated, and chewing slowly. More than 2 million people now follow her story on Instagram.
