Lauren Fowler was born without a uterus. 🩺
At 15, in Kent, England, doctors explained why she had never menstruated: she had Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome. Ovaries, yes; uterus, no. She gave up her dream of becoming a midwife because it hurt to imagine helping other women give birth, knowing she never would.
In May 2025, she entered the operating room at Churchill Hospital in Oxford. Inside, a medical team worked for 11 hours to transplant the uterus of her own sister, Kelly, who was already the mother of three children and had previously even offered to be her surrogate.
Lauren’s body did not accept it without a fight: she suffered an obstruction that forced her to undergo surgery twice more, and a first pregnancy unfortunately ended at 5 weeks.
Today, at 26 weeks, the same body that had no uterus is expecting a baby boy for October 2026. “My sister gave me her uterus so I could have a baby”, Lauren said on British television. 👶
