A local woman was walking down a street in Santiago del Estero when something made her stop.

There was a strange movement and some very faint whimpering coming from a trash can. Inside, in a tightly tied plastic bag, was a dog that was still alive. The dog was weak, frightened, and showing severe signs of dehydration, curled up at the bottom.

She didn’t hesitate: she tore open the bag so the dog could breathe again and immediately alerted animal welfare advocates and neighbors in the area. Within minutes, a support network sprang into action to provide care and transport the dog.

Diario Uno reports that the case sparked outrage, but also inspired a network of solidarity. Would you have heard that whimper?
