His name is Nacho, and he only speaks Spanish! 😂
When Monica Matute took this little chihuahua into her foster home, she thought he was a shy little dog and had probably never learned to follow instructions. She spoke to him in English, tried giving him commands, and got practically no response.
Until one day, she thought of trying something different.
She started speaking to him in Spanish, and Nacho seemed to turn into a different dog. When she told him “Let’s go!”, he immediately jumped out of bed, started wagging his tail, and seemed much more excited than usual.
Monica couldn’t believe it. She said herself that it had never occurred to her to speak to him in Spanish, which was pretty funny considering the little dog was a chihuahua, after all.
Nacho had been found wandering for several days near an adoption center in Los Angeles. His caregiver began sharing his story on TikTok, and the video of the discovery surpassed three million views.
But the best part came later. The little guy was taken to a shelter in Portland, where Nancy Garza-Harris and her husband Rick traveled for three hours to meet him. As soon as they met, Nacho jumped into Rick’s lap and practically made the decision for them.
The couple adopted him, changed his name to Rogelio Montoya, and now his new mom has an even sweeter way to call him.
After all the buzz about discovering which language he understood, Nacho found a family where they now simply call him “my son” 🥹.
