That’s how Shaquille O’Neal blocked his six children when they expected to inherit part of the $500 million he amassed in the NBA, television, and his businesses. He told the story himself on the Earn Your Leisure podcast, and he didn’t sound like he was joking.
To receive any financial help from their father, each child must first graduate from college with a bachelor’s or master’s degree, without exceptions. And if afterward they want Shaq to finance a business of their own, they have to present him with a formal plan, as if he were just any investor. “They have to bring it to me. I will decide”, he said categorically.
His children got angry. He knows it and accepts it. But his goal does not change: he wants there to be a doctor, a lawyer, a pharmacist, or an entrepreneur among them who can stand on their own merits, not on the O’Neal surname 📋
