Alexandra and Rollins Luckey were driving back to Atlanta from Florida with their 6-year-old son, Reese, when they stopped along the way. As soon as they got out of the car, a dog came up to them. He was incredibly affectionate, with the demeanor of a beloved pet, but no one knew who he belonged to. Alexandra told The Dodo that the employees said he’d been there “forever”.

Reese got attached to him right away. He couldn’t understand how anyone could leave a dog like that and ended up crying. “We can’t leave him here”, he told his parents.

Between the boy’s tears and the dog’s sweet face, the Luckeys began to consider the unthinkable. “I’m a dog lover, so I said, let’s take him“, Alexandra said.

They posted his photo in a local lost-pet group, and a neighbor told them that his previous owner had neglected him and no longer wanted to care for him. Reese named him Clark.

A week and a half later, Clark was already climbing into the family’s laps to shower them with kisses and running around the house with Bunny, the family’s other dog… And it all started with a boy who refused to leave him behind. 👏
