He said that the United States should stop calling soccer ‘soccer’ and start calling it ‘football,’ as the rest of the world does. The problem is that there is already a league with that name in everyone’s mind: the NFL. According to Trump, the country’s richest league—which brought in more than 13.800 million dollars last season—would have to come up with another name to avoid causing even more confusion.
It wouldn’t be the first time the NFL changed its identity: it was founded in 1922 as American Professional Football Association. And the U.S. soccer federation also changed its name in 1974. Even so, so far the NFL has not said a word about the proposal. 👀
