While Mexico was thrashing South Africa 2-0 at the Azteca on June 12, broadcaster Fox decided that the hydration break in the 71st minute was the perfect moment to cut to commercials.

The problem: they returned to the air after play had already resumed. According to The Athletic, that directly violates FIFA’s guidelines for broadcasters, which require returning to the air at least 30 seconds before play restarts. 🔴

As if that weren’t enough, Fox also did not air the opening ceremony with Shakira, Burna Boy, and J Balvin. Instead: four analysts talking from an empty studio in Los Angeles.
Did Fox prioritize money over football, or was it simply an operational mistake that doesn’t deserve so much drama? 👇
