Jasmine Varner, from Lawton, Oklahoma, reached a weight of 222 kilos. She went to an all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet three times a week and returned to her table with four or five plates piled high with food, consuming close to 10,000 calories a day.

A diagnosis of type 2 diabetes, just before she turned 30, made her change course. She switched to a diet low in carbohydrates and sugar, started an injection to lose weight, and in 11 months had already lost 83 kilos. Then came a surgery called SADI-S, which reduced the size of her stomach even further, and she ended up weighing 83 kilos: she went from size 32 to XS.

Today, 31-year-old Jasmine has 18 kilos of loose skin on her arms, thighs, and abdomen, something she has not yet had surgery for, but it does not stop her from feeling proud of the person she has become.
