A decade ago, half the world got to know her in pajamas, with an imaginary microphone and an energy impossible to ignore.

Audrey Nethery, from Kentucky, was just 7 years old when her father, Scott, uploaded the video of “Karaoke Monday”, where she sings and dances to a One Direction song. That clip racked up more than 53 million views and turned her into “the karaoke girl”. But behind that smile was a silent battle. At two months old, she was diagnosed with Diamond-Blackfan anemia, a very rare genetic disorder that prevents the bone marrow from producing enough red blood cells. Since then, transfusions and hospital visits have been part of her routine.

Her family decided to use that fame for something bigger: raising awareness of the disease and helping raise funds for research. Today, according to information shared by her family, Audrey is 18 and celebrated her first last day of high school, happier than ever. The same girl who danced in pajamas now faces the future head-on. Who could have imagined that homemade video would turn out to be just the first chapter?
